Mind / Body / Spirit
We are more than our minds, more than our bodies! We are multidimensional beings. Science is beginning to understand the nature of the world in a way that parallels the ideas of philosophers and sages of ancient times. Our senses tell us that the physical world is material, non-changing and solid, but this is a fact of sensory perception. When viewed through the eyes of a quantum physicist, the essential nature of the universe is not material. Everything in creation, including our physical body, is made up of subatomic particles moving at lightening speeds through vast empty spaces. At a deeper level, even these elementary particles are simply fluctuations of energy and information.
Our bodies are in dynamic and constant transformation. We are a network of intelligence in dynamic exchange with everything that surrounds us. Our bodies are not frozen anatomical structures, they are rivers of intelligence that are continuously changing and ever new.
A ninth century Vedic philosopher, Adi Shankara, clearly stated the layers of life that mask our essential spiritual self. He called these layers "koshas" meaning coverings and he categorized them into three primary divisions - a physical body, a subtle body, and a causal body or it simpler words -body, mind, and soul.
When we have undigested experiences, food or emotions, toxins can accumulate in the body, mind. These may result in a lack of energy sometimes called depression; or a feeling of not being well. In Ayurveda we call these accumulations, ama. Health is re-establishing the flow of energy.
All healing is the "release of fears." Most of us are healing from learned adaptive patterns that result in a lack of spontaneity, lack of energy, increased anger, intimacy issues, loss of self esteem etc. These problems manifest themselves in the mind: low self esteem, negative thinking etc; in the body: creating illness or tight/flaccid muscles; and even in the spirit: a loss of spirit or desire to live life to its fullest. For those of us who are patient and determined on our journey, joy increases, peace increases, and the ability to live a beneficial and compassionate life increases.
